CLS Conference on Critical Thinking
Published: Fri 22 August 2025The students attended a conference on Critical Thinking and approaching controversial debates at the City of London School. The event was run in partnership with UCL and hosted by the City of London School.
The conference was on all things controversial.’ Through exploring timely and contentious topics, each session sought to sharpen students’ critical thinking skills as they got to debate and discuss with peers. They also explored the dilemmas of disinformation, misinformation, and how to pursue truth in an age of alternative facts and unregulated social media.
There was a range of sessions, including keynote speakers and workshops.
Speaker included:
- Mrs Alexis Stones, the Subject Lead for Religious Education at the IOE, University College London. She is a leading expert in museum education with research on global learning.
- Dr Glenn Bezalel is Deputy Head Academic at CLS. He is the author of Teaching Classroom Controversies, and his research focuses on conspiracy theories.
- Dr David Edmonds is a leading British philosopher who produces the popular Philosophy Bites podcast with Nigel Warburton. He has written numerous books on philosophy, including Would You Kill the Fat Man? on the trolley problem.
